This matters most for children and teenagers, because scoliosis often appears and progresses during the growth spurt, and catching it early gives the most options.
Reassuringly, most scoliosis is mild. For mild curves, Cleveland Clinic notes treatment is often just “visiting a healthcare provider regularly (usually every six months) to monitor the degree of the curve.” A prominent rib does not mean surgery.

Can you even it out?
If the cause is posture or muscle imbalance rather than a spinal curve, general measures can help the way things look and feel, though they will not reshape bone.
- Work on posture, especially if you tend to sit or stand twisted to one side.
- Strengthen your core and back evenly, so one side does not dominate. A physiotherapist can tailor this if one side is clearly weaker.
- Stretch the tighter side. Gentle, regular stretching can ease a muscular pull that is accentuating the prominence.
